Description: 

Perennial climbing plant 5-8 m long. The wrinkled plants climb clockwise. Leaves are opposite, heart-shaped or lobed palm-like, wrinkled. Flowers are unisex, male flowers develop in a panicle, women parts flower in bracts which look like oval globes, suspended downwards and yellow-green colour. Internal shell surface has yellowish to reddish gland like shapes which gives the hop its bitter taste.

It is used for improving appetite, for flatulence, diarrhoea, and insomnia as well as for calming. Young shoots can be used in salads.
