Annual meeting of the DigiMedFor project held in Greece: focus on the digital future of forestry

The annual meeting of the DigiMedFor project was held in Kavala, Greece, on 5 and 6 June 2025 - a European HORIZON project that brings together 21 partners from 11 countries with the aim of digital transformation of the Mediterranean forest and timber sector.
During the two-day event, participants from all over Europe and the Mediterranean gathered to exchange experiences, present the progress of pilot activities and jointly plan the dissemination and application of developed digital tools at so-called replication sites. The role of the Istria Model Forest in this project is crucial because all tools (such as the Knowledge Platform, Trestima applications, ecosystem digitalization and others) developed through the project are planned to be tested in this area.

First day: Planning and knowledge
The first day of the meeting was dedicated to reviewing the results of all work packages, experiences from pilot sites, strategic planning of replication, development of the digital Knowledge Platform and discussion on the future of forestry professions and the necessary digital skills.

Special emphasis was placed on education through future webinars, as well as on collecting feedback from users who are already testing the digital tools developed as part of the project.
The day concluded with a joint walk through the old town of Kavala and informal networking during a working dinner.

Day Two: Technology in the Forest
The second day was open to the public and held in the Limnia Forest, where presentations and demonstrations of advanced technologies in forestry were held - including drones, artificial intelligence (AI), mobile applications and remote sensors. The gathered foresters, scientists and IT experts discussed the possibilities of integrating these tools into everyday forest management.
This was the first public dissemination event of the DigiMedFor project, aiming to connect experts, local stakeholders and the public.
